Analyzing the New York Times

The main story on the front page of the New York Times is a feature piece on illegal immigrants. It starts out with a quote and a story of a man named Daniel who has been separated from his family through deportation.

"'My wife, my son - I have to get back to them,' Daniel kept telling himself, from the moment he was arrested in Seattle for driving with an expired license, all the way through the deportation proceeding that delivered him to Mexico in June."

The writer then goes on to describe how the United States' is currently handling Mexican immigrants. He discusses the issue from the government's perspective as well as the immigrants', telling plenty of tragic stories of families being separated as they are excluded from The Home of the Free. It also put a strong emphasis on the fact that about 50% of deported immigrants are repeat offenders.

The feature ended with a quote from an illegal immigrant who came back to America despite the dangers to be with his 2-year-old twin sons.
